The Daily Signal welcomes thoughtful commentary on a wide range of topics. Our team accepts only a limited number of unsolicited op-eds, although we welcome your submissions that adhere to the guidelines below.

Guidelines

  1. Originality: Submissions must be original and unpublished. We do not accept commentaries that have been published elsewhere, including on personal blogs or social media.
  2. Relevance: Commentaries should address current events, cultural issues, or topics of public interest. We are particularly interested in pieces that offer fresh perspectives, informed analysis, and thoughtful commentary.
  3. Length: Submissions should be between 600 and 1,000 words. Longer pieces will be considered on a case-by-case basis if the subject matter warrants it.
  4. Clarity and Style: Commentaries should be well-written, clear, and concise. Avoid jargon and overly technical language to ensure accessibility to a broad audience.
  5. Author Information: Include a brief bio (2-3 sentences) and a headshot. If applicable, disclose any potential conflicts of interest, affiliations, or financial interests related to your work.

Process

  1. Format: Send your submission as a Word document to letters@dailysignal.com. Ensure the document includes a proposed headline, your name, and contact information.
  2. Subject Line: Use the subject line “Daily Signal Submission: [Headline of Your Piece]” to help us identify your submission quickly.
  3. Editorial Review: Our editorial team will review your submission for relevance, originality, and quality. Due to the high volume of submissions, we cannot provide feedback on all pieces, but we will notify you if your submission is selected for publication.
  4. Editing: If accepted, our editors complete a review for factual accuracy, clarity, grammar, and style. Significant changes will be discussed with the author before publication.
  5. Publication: Accepted submissions will be scheduled for publication at the discretion of the editorial team. We strive to publish timely pieces as soon as possible but cannot guarantee a specific publication date.

Standards

  1. Accuracy: Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of their work. Fact-checking is crucial, and sources should be cited where appropriate.
  2. Respectful Discourse: We value respectful and constructive discourse. Submissions should avoid personal attacks or defamatory statements.
  3. Exclusivity: By submitting your commentary to The Daily Signal, you agree not to submit it to another publication until you have received a decision from us. If your piece is published by us, we retain exclusive rights to the content for a specified period, after which you may request permission for re-publication elsewhere.
