[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKlYT2bseII[/youtube]Before the Tonight Show aired last night, President Barack Obama called Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver to apologize for making fun of Special Olympic athletes during his jovial performance on the late night comedy show. This was the correct course of action for a very un-Presidential remark during a very un-Presidential appearance. However, President Obama should have apologized for his new tax-and-spend policies which will make it nearly impossible for the Special Olympics to raise the money necessary to continue operating at their heroic level.
The President is reducing charitable tax deductions on Americans, which “are projected to help raise $634 billion for a kind of big federal piggy bank that would be used to extend health coverage to the more than 47 million people in America who are uninsured and subsidize premiums for others who can’t afford what they have.” So a potential loss of contributions to the Special Olympics means more money for Obama’s national health care program.
It should be noted that President Kennedy’s sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, helped found the Special Olympics which empowers courageous “individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.”
