House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz believes more answers are needed from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attacks.
In an interview with The Daily Signal this week, the Utah Republican said Clinton needs to be held accountable when it comes to her role regarding Benghazi.
“The secretary has some questions that the Select Committee on Benghazi wants to have answered,” Chaffetz said. “I think those are very legitimate.”
The Daily Signal also asked Chaffetz about the IRS targeting scandal, which his predecessor, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., investigated as the committee’s previous chairman. Chaffetz maintained that Lois Lerner, former director of the IRS’ Exempt Organizations Unit, still needs to answer for the agency’s actions against conservative and tea party groups.
As chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, a role he officially began in January, Chaffetz has jurisdiction over a range of issues. Although he’s no longer handling the Benghazi investigation—that’s now led by Rep. Trey Gowdy’s Select Committee on Benghazi—Chaffetz maintains an active portfolio that includes recent probes into the Drug Enforcement Agency and Secret Service.
In our interview, he explained why he’s fighting for accountability on behalf of American taxpayers.
