An Arizona man with cancer is going to be dropped from his current insurance and will probably lose his doctor because of Obamacare.
Michael Cerpok was diagnosed with an incurable form of leukemia in 2006 requiring treatment that would cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars a year without help from insurance. ABC 15 reported Cerpok’s treatment bill was more than $350,000 in 2012. But because of his insurance, his out-of-pocket payment was only $4,500.
Cerpok’s insurance carrier recently sent him a letter announcing he will lose his coverage January 1 because of new regulations under Obamacare.
“Now it doesn’t mean I can’t go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that I’ve been seeing the last seven years,” Cerpok told Arizona’s ABC 15.
Cerpok says that he and his wife might need to pick up second jobs to afford the care he needs to stay alive.
