A year ago this month, I was able to rid my left-wing college of liberal gender ideology. In January, President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican Party have a historic opportunity to do the same for the entire nation.
Final victory against the woke mind virus is possible. I know, because I did it myself at just 19 years old.
It was just another Tuesday at my campus job in the admissions office at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, when I overheard something startling. A new policy had slipped through the cracks of my all-women’s college, a policy that would admit applicants who “consistently live and identify as women,” in other words, biological men.
The impact of such a policy at an all-women’s school would be egregious. The administrators and self-proclaimed “feminists” of my women’s Catholic college wanted to force us to sleep in the same rooms as men, share bathrooms with men, and change clothes in front of men.
This policy would undermine the principle of what makes us as women so unique and what made Saint Mary’s College so special—yet the college’s president, Katie Conboy, was celebrating it.
I knew that something had to be done, and I knew that I had to do it. I could not sit back and watch something so insulting destroy the very fabric of what made my women’s Catholic college so special. I knew the battle would not be easy, but that didn’t stop me.
No fight is more noble than the fight for the truth.
To my pleasant surprise, I was not alone in my feelings of anger and betrayal. With the help of nearly 100 other incredible students who had found solace in my outspokenness, I was able to gather a network of more than 1,000 alumni, friends, family, and other supporters. I told everyone I could about this predatory and unjust policy, which landed the story on prime-time news and in over 40 different news outlets.
It became a political movement in which we were able to gather not just many on the Right, but incredibly large numbers of people on the Left, as well. The bipartisan revolution we organized became an incredibly powerful testament to just how universally despised the notion of allowing men in women’s spaces really is.
Despite the policy’s political nature, the key to defeating the ideology was not to follow the red or blue, but to follow the green. The most important weapon we had was money. I managed to help orchestrate a mass boycott of the college through a strong financial protest, where the school ended up losing what had to have been hundreds of thousands of dollars in donor money.
It was catastrophic, and it left them no choice but to ultimately withdraw the policy.
Although I was able to help purge my women’s college of the gender ideology virus that would have surely ruined the institution, this woke virus still plagues women’s lives all across the country. Men are still competing in women’s sports, little girls are still forced to share bathrooms with fully grown males, and some organizations still mandate pronoun usage and “gender inclusivity.”
There are other young girls out there like me who, unfortunately, do not have the tools necessary to stand up for themselves like I did.
With a Republican trifecta in this year’s elections (the presidency, House, and Senate), it’s time we as a nation stand for truth and end the evil of gender ideology.
Come January, we’ll have a Republican majority in Congress and Trump back in the White House. That presents a unique opportunity for our government to stand with women and end this madness once and for all.
The extreme left-wing position taken by the Biden-Harris administration on the use of pronouns and the complete redefining what a woman is through Title IX drastically swayed voters toward the Republican ticket. Voters showed up this election, and they made it clear that they want a return to normalcy and a return to biological reality.
My story should demonstrate that this issue has support on both sides of the aisle, if only lawmakers are courageous enough to follow the money. The final solution is clear: Taxpayer dollars should not be going toward any institutions that continue to push the transgender agenda that millions of Americans voted against.
Woke education must be federally defunded.
I was thrilled to hear Trump announce that he will seek to end men’s participation in women’s sports and withhold federal dollars from any educational institution that teaches transgender insanity. I’m excited to see him follow through on this promise, so that women do not have to be silenced and suppressed by men, and young college girls can stop living in fear, wondering whether their schools and sororities will end up like mine.
I urge lawmakers in Congress to follow the president’s lead and do their part to protect women and girls across the country.
