FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Florida Sen. Rick Scott, a Republican, is leading his Democratic opponent in a new poll.
Napolitan News Service surveyed 774 likely voters in Florida between Sept. 25 and 27 as to whether they preferred Scott or his reelection challenger, former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
If the election for U.S. Senate were held today, 48% of Floridians polled said they would vote for Scott, while 43% expressed support for the Democrat, Mucarsel-Powell. When people leaning one way or another were included, half said they would vote for Scott, while only 44% preferred Mucarsel-Powell.
Democrats currently hold a narrow majority in the Senate, so every race matters for determining the balance of power heading into 2025 and the 119th Congress.
Scott served as governor of Florida from 2011 to 2019. He was elected to represent the Sunshine State in the Senate in 2018. Mucarsel-Powell was defeated in 2020 in her bid for a second term, losing to Republican Carlos A. Giménez, the then-mayor of Miami-Dade County, 51.3% to 48.6%.
“Senator Scott is focused on helping Floridians suffering after the destruction of Hurricane Helene,” Scott campaign spokesman Will Hampson told The Daily Signal. “He will continue to travel the state until Election Day meeting with Floridians and sharing his message of freedom – not socialism.”
Mucarsel-Powell did not respond to a request for comment.

Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump also leads his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, in Florida by 2 percentage points in polls when leaners are included. Trump won Florida with 51.2% of the vote in 2020.
Trump has a 52% favorable rating in Florida, compared with Harris’ 50% favorable rating.
Republicans have double-digit advantages in Florida in trust on handling immigration, crime, the war between Israel and Hamas, inflation, and the economy.
