The owner of a new athletic clothing brand says she has seen broad support for protecting the exclusivity of women’s sports from the transgender movement since she began advocating for the cause.
Jennifer Sey, who founded XX-XY Athletics earlier this year, explained to Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts in an interview why she started the brand in response to the trend of men who identify as women pushing their way onto women’s sports teams across the U.S.
“One area that people do come together on is this idea of protecting women’s sports and keeping women’s sports and spaces female,” said Sey, a former chief marketing officer and global brand president for Levi Strauss & Co.. She referenced May 2023 Gallup polling showing that nearly 70% of Americans do, in fact, agree on the issue.
The movement to oppose transgenderism includes “the most politically diverse group of women,” said Sey, a former Democrat, citing her experience speaking at public events on the subject.
A former gymnast herself, Sey told Roberts: “This should not be controversial.”
“Everybody understood until about five minutes ago that male and female bodies were different,” she said. “Now, suddenly, it’s offensive to say that? Now, suddenly, we’re expected to carry this lie forward, which is [that] there’s no difference between male and female bodies and that sex is not binary?”
