A professor who tweeted that President Donald Trump “must hang” and “justice = the execution of two Republicans for each deported immigrant” will not return to teach in the fall.
California State University, Fresno history professor Lars Maischak won’t teach during the fall semester, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday, citing an announcement by university President Joseph Castro. But Maischak’s contract doesn’t expire until next May, and he has been tasked with converting two courses into online formats.
“Has anyone started soliciting money and design drafts for a monument honoring the Trump assassin, yet?” Maischak asked in another since-deleted statement, first reported in April by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Dr. Lars Maischak, Fresno State history lecturer, will not be teaching this fall,” Castro said in a prepared statement Friday. “In accordance with California State University, Fresno’s contractual obligation, Dr. Maischak has been assigned to convert two courses to an online format which meets his unit requirement per the faculty collective bargaining unit agreement.”
The school president mentioned that the two courses will meet online learning and teaching standards set by California State University. Maischak’s “contractual assignment” ends Dec. 20, and his contract expires in May 2018.
The professor originally took a voluntary, paid leave of absence after mass publication of his remarks.
Update: The university responded to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment post-publication with clarification on details concerning Maischak’s contract and assignment to convert courses to online formats.
