Many states are succumbing to pressure to expand their Medicaid programs with promises from the federal government under Obamacare to cover the initial costs. But Gov. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., says that is bad policy and ultimately will be a bad financial deal for states.
In an interview with Daily Signal senior contributor Genevieve Wood, Brownback explains why he believes some of his fellow governors, including Republican Mike Pence of Indiana, are taking the wrong path in agreeing to the Medicaid expansion, and why he thinks the better approach for states and their citizens is to reform their programs, not expand them.
Brownback, a former U.S. senator, also talks about whether he might eventually seek a higher office that would return him to Washington.
