House Cloakroom:
Analysis: The schedule this week remains unsettled. The House is likely to continue sending targeted funding bills to the Senate. Since President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) shut down the government to protect Obamacare, the House has sent more than a dozen funding bills to the Senate.
Major Committee Action:
- The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs will hold a hearing entitled “Effect of Government Shutdown on VA Benefits and Services to Veterans.”
- The House Committee on Natural Resources will hold a hearing entitled “EPA vs. American Mining Jobs: The Obama Administration’s Regulatory Assault on the Economy.”

- The House Committee on Homeland Security will hold a hearing entitled “Facility Protection: Implications of the Navy Yard Shooting on Homeland Security.”

Senate Cloakroom:
Analysis: If the pattern holds, the Senate will continue to ignore House-passed bills that fund things like veterans benefits.
Major Committee Action:
- The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing entitled “Impact of a Default on Financial Stability and Economic Growth.”
