Planned Parenthood’s history of depravity extends long before its representatives brought cards describing sexually explicit terms to a high school event in June, effectively getting the organization banned from Canadian high schools. For Planned Parenthood, nothing is off limits, from promoting abortion gift cards at Christmas to offering free abortions after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
America’s largest abortion provider consistently works to promote itself while desecrating sacred holidays and disrespecting days of remembrance at the same time.
“When the goal of your business is to make a profit from destroying preborn infants, nothing is too obscene or disgusting to use in the attempt to achieve that aim,” said American Life League Director of Communications Katie Brown. “It sounds awful—and it is.”
American Life League and its offshoot organization, STOPP International, have served as Planned Parenthood watchdogs over the years and have recently pointed out instances of the abortion provider’s obscene and irreverent promotional gimmicks.
Abortion Gift Cards
During the 2008 Christmas season, Planned Parenthood’s Indiana affiliate decided to hand out gift certificates that could be used to get an abortion, among other services.
Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America at the time, stood by the decision to hand out these abortion vouchers. She cited the “incredible downturn” of the economy to explain why this would be a practical gift during the holiday season that celebrates the birth of Christ.
When pressed in an interview with NPR about the implications of the abortion gift card campaign, Richards said she thought the use of the cards for abortions was “pretty unlikely, but they could be.”
The campaign resurfaced once again during the 2014 Christmas season.
Vibrator Easter Egg Hunt
Planned Parenthood’s Dallas affiliate found its way into yet another sacred holiday in 2019. The organization hosted an Easter egg hunt but hid sex toys in place of colorful eggs filled with sweet treats.
The Dallas Observer initially advertised the event on its pages, but Planned Parenthood requested any mention of its adult egg hunt be redacted.
Sex Toy ‘Fundraisers’
Planned Parenthood started a sex toy fundraiser to raise money for “reproductive health care” in reaction to a Republican sweep in the 2016 elections. But where does this money go? Back into its own pockets.
The abortion provider created its own sex toy company, Vibrant, for the purpose of funding itself. Founder and CEO of Vibrant Angela Wells said in an interview with woman’s magazine SWAAY that the purpose of creating a sex toy company for Planned Parenthood was “a way for us to continue [creating] a healthy society.”
Cornell University’s Planned Parenthood Generation Action in New York state even hosted its own sex toy raffle to raise money for abortion access in Texas after the state passed Senate Bill 8, a bill banning abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected.
Condom Ice Cream Truck
Current Planned Parenthood President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson tweeted a picture of an ice cream truck where people could receive condoms and Planned Parenthood merchandise. The truck was stationed in Austin, Texas, at the South by Southwest Film Festival in 2022.
Johnson’s Twitter comments section was filled with people expressing their disgust. One person asked, “Does anyone else find it ironic that an organization dedicated to killing children is using as a tool something kids love?”
9/11 Abortion Promotion
Wasting no time after a tragedy, Planned Parenthood ran a promotion the week following the terrorist attacks on 9/11 by offering free services, including abortion.
“Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) extends our sympathies to all who have suffered a loss in the tragic events of last week,” the New York affiliate said in a statement. “To provide for the many New York women who have been displaced or may otherwise be in need due to the World Trade Center tragedy, PPNYC will be offering complete reproductive health care from Sept. 18-22 free of cost.”
These instances show Planned Parenthood’s relentless commitment to shamelessly promoting itself and its biggest service, abortion.
