The Department of Justice has charged two more far-left activists with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act when they attacked pregnancy resource centers in Florida.
Gabriella Oropesa and Annarella Rivera allegedly worked with radical Antifa activists Caleb Freestone and Amber Smith-Stewart to attack and vandalize a pregnancy resource center in Winter Haven, Florida, with the spray-painted messages “YOUR TIME IS UP!!” as well as “WE’RE COMING for U” and “We are everywhere.”
According to the DOJ, pregnancy centers in Hollywood, Florida, and Hialeah, Florida, were also targeted.
“The superseding indictment also alleges that Rivera, along with Freestone and Smith-Stewart, violated the FACE Act by using threats of force to intimidate and interfere with the employees of a reproductive health services facility in Winter Haven because those employees were providing or seeking to provide reproductive health services,” the DOJ said in a release. “The superseding indictment further alleges that Rivera, along with Freestone and Smith-Stewart, violated the FACE Act by intentionally damaging and destroying the facility’s property because the facility provides reproductive health services.”
If they are convicted of the offenses, Rivera, Freestone, and Smith-Stewart face up to 12 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines up to $350,000, while Oropesa could face up to 10 years in prison, three years supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
Their indictment is particularly consequential as this group of far-left attackers are the only pro-abortion vandals to have been charged with violating the FACE Act. The DOJ charged at least 26 pro-life individuals in 2022 with violations of the FACE Act—though the legislation protects both pro-life pregnancy centers and abortion clinics.
At least 83 pro-life groups and 144 churches have been attacked since the May leak of the draft opinion indicating that Roe v. Wade would be overturned, according to Catholic Vote trackers. Vandals have often tagged these buildings with threats such as, “If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you,” making the attacks incidents of suspected pro-abortion violence that federal authorities have been slow to investigate.
