Thirteen years ago, terrorists killed nearly 3,000 innocent people in New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa. Today, communities across the nation pay tribute to the fallen, their families and those who fought in their honor.
1. Firefighters
Salinas Fire Station 1 in California hosted a moving ceremony for the community.
At 6:45 a.m., the Bob Hope Airport Fire Department in Burbank, Calif., honored those who lost their lives.
2. Police
Sarasota Police Department in Florida hosted a remembrance ceremony at its headquarters.
Sgt. Lori Jaress was on special detail with President Bush in Sarasota on Sept. 11, 2001.
3. Teachers
Mrs. McBrayer replayed the devastating images from New York for her class.

Relatives place flowers and rest on the benches of the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Va.
The White House marked the anniversary with a moment of silence on the South Lawn.
The U.S. Capitol flew its flag at half-staff.

All victims’ names are read at the World Trade Center site.
The South Tower Pool is lined with flowers during the memorial observances held at the site of the World Trade Center.
