Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Sunday he hopes President Obama seeks congressional approval in taking military action against the Islamic State, the terrorist group also known as ISIS or ISIL.
Obama’s ISIS military action ‘absolutely’ needs congressional approval, says @SenTedCruz
“What we ought to have is a direct, concerted, overwhelming air campaign to take them out,” Cruz said on ABC’s “This Week.” “The real focus should be taking out ISIS. Within Syria, it should not be our objective to try to resolve the civil war in Syria.”
The president plans to communicate his strategy on the Islamic State to lawmakers in private meetings early this week and to deliver a speech to the nation on Wednesday.
Congress should be a part of any action Obama takes, Cruz said. “It should absolutely take congressional approval.”
