Over the weekend former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura lost their White House dog, Miss Beazley.
President Bush released this statement:
This weekend our beloved dog, Miss Beazley, was put to rest after a battle with lymphoma. She was a source of joy during our time in Washington and in Dallas. She was a close companion to her blood relative, Barney. And even though he received all the attention, Beazley never held a grudge against him. She was a guardian to our cats, Bob and Bernadette, who — like Laura and I — will miss her.
President Bush gave Miss Beazley to the first lady for her birthday in 2004.
She became an official White House resident at 10 weeks old, in January 2005.
Barney (Miss Beazley’s older brother) and Miss Beazley were so popular when the Bushes were in Washington that the White House created Barney.gov featuring photos and videos of both dogs.
At nine years old, Miss Beazley lived a life full of White House adventures. For example, she got her exercise with President Bush.
And with Army Staff Sgt. Christian Bagge, who lost both legs to a roadside bomb in Iraq.
She even sat in on important presidential phone calls.
