The deadline for The Heritage Foundation’s Spring 2014 Internship Program has been extended to October 10. Get the word out to any young leaders you may know who want to get involved in formulating and promoting conservative public policy.
Every year The Heritage Foundation offers internships for college students in the spring, summer, and fall. The goal is to train, equip, and develop young conservative leaders with practical skills to be effective champions for freedom when they return to their schools and communities.
At Heritage, interns do not get the coffee—unless they want some. They do real policy work with Heritage experts on foreign and domestic policy issues in such areas as energy and the environment, rule of law, homeland security, and health care. Heritage also offers the opportunity to work in communications, marketing, graphic design, development, accounting, coalition building and outreach.
“I’ve been an intern in both the House and the Senate, and I can safely say that I’ve done more work at The Heritage Foundation than all the other internships combined. The amount of work that I do is actually useful of my talents and I’m actually appreciated, and that’s a big difference,” said Christina Baworowsky, who interns in the Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies.
Alatheia Larsen, interning in the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society, said, “There’s a lot expected from you right from the get go; there is research [and] blog writing. They really expect us to perform well, and therefore that’s a challenge that stretches me and makes me develop skills better than if I wasn’t pushed so hard.”
In addition to working with experts, interns have the opportunity to attend educational and skill-enhancing seminars where they can meet and talk with the nation’s leading policymakers. Tours to some of the nation’s greatest monuments are also included in the internship experience.
Larsen said, “The people that I interact with, the connections that I’m able to make here will put me way ahead. These can be resources and connections that I can use for the rest of my life.”
