How a Pro-Choice Democrat Responded When Asked, ‘Were Your Children Human Beings’ Before Birth?

“Were your children human beings before they were born?” A yes-or-no question.
Democratic National Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz would not give a straight answer when asked the question by an MRC TV reporter.
The Florida representative has been a pro-choice advocate in Congress, vocally standing for women’s reproductive choice and bashing what she called “the Republican male-led political witch hunt against Planned Parenthood.”
“We wanted to narrow the scope down to a more personal level. Wasserman-Schultz didn’t,” MRCTV.org reports.
Wasserman Schultz was asked about her three children (twin 16-year-olds and a 12-year-old) Tuesday while backstage at the CNN Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas.
“In your opinion, were they human beings before they were born?” the MRC TV reporter asked.
The congresswoman turned the conversation to the reproductive rights of women.
“You know, I believe that every woman has the right to make their own reproductive choices,” Wasserman Schultz replied.
Wasserman Schultz has opposed the “outrageous witch hunt” to defund the nation’s largest abortion provider.
“This bill [the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015] is possibly the most dangerous bill for women’s health to come to the House Floor this Congress,” she said in a House floor statement last month.
The MRC TV reporter asked Wasserman Schultz again what she believed about her own children. The answer: The DNC chair was glad she had reproductive choices, a right that she was “proud” of.
With no clear answer to the question, the reporter pressed Wasserman Schultz a third time.
“So were they human beings? Just yes or no.”
Wasserman Schultz answered, “They’re human beings today.”
Previously, Wasserman Schultz would not deny that she supports the abortion of a seven-pound unborn baby.
“Here’s an answer,” Wasserman Schultz responded to Sen. Rand Paul. “I support letting women and their doctors make this decision without government getting involved. Period. End of story.”
