Invoking former presidents James Madison and Ronald Reagan, two freshmen tea party lawmakers shared with The Daily Signal their visions for the future of the conservative movement.
In 60-second interviews, Reps. Dave Brat, R-Va., and Barry Loundermilk, R-Ga., spoke to how they plan to approach the tricky dynamic of staying true to their conservative roots while satisfying an American public that some say is fed up with party brinksmanship.
“It’s not going to be utopia at the end of the year, especially considering we have a president who is going to veto a lot of what we do,” Loudermilk said. “If we have two years of stalemate, but we’re sending to [President Obama] good, solid, conservative, constitutional legislation, I think it sets the pace for the 2016 presidential election. This is a long process. But we have to shift the momentum.”
