Anticipated Obamacare Costs Contribute to Closure of Ice Cream Plant

While many federal government employees head back to work today, not all employees for the Elkhart, Indiana-based ice cream company, Bonnie Doon Ice Cream, will have the same opportunity. The company said this week it will close its plant and Mishawaka location because of the declining economy, higher production costs, and anticipated additional costs from the Affordable Care Act.

Obamacare’s costs and drag on the economy are concerns for Kyle Hannon, president of the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce:
Our businesses have been concerned, kind of wondering, “How much is this going to cost? How is it going to impact us?”
The news comes as more Americans are telling us the cost spikes in their health insurance premiums they face because of the health law.
“At a time when so many Americans are suffering because of the rollout of this new law, I remain puzzled by [President Obama’s] failure to acknowledge the faults cause by this unfair, unworkable, and unpopular measure,” Heritage President Jim DeMint said in a recent letter.
