The FDA will soon finalize its regulations implementing the Obamacare calorie-labeling mandate for chain restaurants with 20 or more locations. FDA’s one-size-fits-all draft rules will create onerous and expensive burdens on these franchised small businesses, fail to take into account current consumer behavior, and unfairly extend the mandate to convenience and grocery stores.

Join us for The Bloggers Briefing tomorrow at noon ET to hear more about the impact from Heritage Research Fellow Daren Bakst and Mary Lynne Carraway, a Domino’s Pizza franchisee in the Washington, D.C., area.

Mary Lynne will explain how these rules will have a disproportionate impact on pizza delivery stores. Pizza chains receive 90 percent of their orders online and over the phone, yet the FDA is requiring them to post in-store menu boards at a cost of as much as $5,000 per year, per store.

Following this discussion, Heritage Senior Legal Scholar James Swanson will discuss his new book, End of Days: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy. Fifty years after Kennedy’s death, Swanson has put together a gripping account of the murder and its aftermath.

This book is already winning widespread praise. Swanson’s earlier work, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, was a New York Times bestseller and won the Edgar Award.
