The “Sexiest Man Alive” is an official cheerleader for Obamacare.
Pop singer Adam Levine, who was crowned People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” this year, will take part in launching a social media campaign to promote Obamacare in California today.
Levine, the lead vocalist for Maroon 5 and judge on “The Voice,” came under fire earlier this year for saying, “I hate this country” on an open mic during his show. Now, he brings his star power to help Obamacare overcome its troubled start.
With 57 percent of young adults opposing Obamacare, defenders of the health care law are seeking to shore up support with this important demographic. The “Tell a Friend — Get Covered” campaign aims to get the word out on Obamacare benefits to 100 million people, according to a Covered California press release.
Another star taking part in the campaign is Wilmer Valderrama, known for his role on “That 70s Show.” According to Politico, others include Fran Drescher, Kal Penn, and Tatyana Ali.
Various celebrities are set to showcase their inputs daily, from tweets to Vine videos. The campaign will culminate in an eight-hour live-streamed event on YouTube on January 16.
“The idea is a drumbeat of dialogue, a drumbeat of discussion about coverage — not about glitches, not about the politics, not about the pundits,” said Peter Lee, executive director of Covered California, in a Bloomberg story.
This isn’t the first time the Obamacare supporters have turned to celebrities for help. Earlier this year, they touted that Lady Gaga had signed up for insurance through HealthCare.gov.
