The case of Weldon Angelos is well-told. His prison sentence of 55 years for selling marijuana while possessing a gun helped spark the criminal justice reform movement, and even inspired the conservative Koch brothers to lead the effort to see him freed.

But Angelos, a 36-year-old father of three from Salt Lake City, has not been able to tell his story for himself.

This week, Angelos spoke with The Daily Signal, almost a month after he was released early from prison due to an unusual order from a federal court. Angelos ended up serving more than 12 years in federal prison.

In the above video interview, Angelos reflected on all he lost, reveled over reuniting with his three children, including his 17-year-old son, Jesse, and called for reforms to the nation’s sentencing laws.
