A group of pro-life leaders have pledged to oppose any bill that funds Planned Parenthood.

The Conservative Action Project has released a “Memo for the Movement” on its opposition to any bill that grants taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

The project was founded by former Attorney General Edwin Meese and includes leaders of more than 100 organizations in the conservative movement.

The over 140 signatories include Lila Rose, founder of Live Action; Brent Bozell, chairman of ForAmerica; Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America; and Dr. Alveda King, director of African-American Outreach at Priests for Life.

They assert:

While the videos chronicle anecdotal evidence of Planned Parenthood’s abhorrent behavior, the facts about Planned Parenthood reveal an even more disturbing story. One third of the abortions in this country are committed at Planned Parenthood. In the last year, 327,653 lives were lost at the hands of Planned Parenthood, which is heavily subsidized by the taxpayers! This money could be redirected to other more comprehensive health centers.

Planned Parenthood’s most recent financial report shows that $528.4 million of its revenue in 2014 came from federal, state and local governments.

“This is an intolerable reality that Congress is empowered to correct. Funding Planned Parenthood is a conscience violation for every taxpayer. Therefore, we will oppose any bill that funds Planned Parenthood,” they conclude.

The signatories were referring to undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress depicting senior Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of aborted fetal body parts at the organization’s affiliates.

Profiting from the sale of fetal human organs is a felony in the United States. Spokespersons for Planned Parenthood have denied participation in illegal transactions.
