Gen. John Allen, the president’s special envoy for the coalition against ISIS, told ABC News on Sunday that the terrorist group “is at an entirely different level than al-Qaeda was.”

ISIS is “better organized” and its “command and control is better,” Allen told ABC.

He added that ISIS has a “situational awareness of a broader battle space across the entire region.” Allen, a retired Marine Corps general, leads the U.S.-led coalition in the fight against ISIS.

He said that ISIS’ decision to murder Jordanian pilot Lt. Muath al-Kasasbeh by burning him alive has backfired, making the coalition more determined than ever to destroy the terror group.

“It’s galvanized the coalition, united the coalition,” Allen said.

Allen said the risk that ISIS is a threat to the home front is one that “we should take very seriously.”
