Actress Blake Lively creatively announced her pregnancy today on her lifestyle website, Preserve.

The announcement came in the form of a photo essay focused on family with a few photos hinting at what was to come at the end – an ethereal photo of Lively cradling a tiny bump.

The Preserve editorial team wrote a piece to go along with the photos, noting Lively’s value of family:

…With family on our mind, we looked to the origin of it all – to the women in our lives who are right there, at that special moment; at the creation of family.

In a day and age where celebrities having children outside of marriage is the norm, it’s refreshing to see a couple choose to have a child after committing to one another.

The couple was married in 2012 and Lively told Vogue earlier this year that her husband would “be a great father and patriarch.”

Reynolds and Lively both come from larger families and have made it clear that parenting is high on their priority list. She told Allure that she’s “always wanted a big family” and also said that “work is important but my greatest passion is my personal life.”

Lively’s new website is actually focused on tradition, entrepreneurship, storytelling and lifestyle, not your typical Hollywood flash. Perhaps her connection to family and culture is the inspiration behind both of her latest new ventures — magazines and motherhood.

It’s clear that Lively adores her husband, whom she calls her “best friend” and is excited to be a mom. Promoting the importance of family and parenting over work and fame is a message we could all afford to hear a little more from Hollywood.
