Former President Bill Clinton recently compared voter identification laws to Jim Crow-era statutes that suppressed the black vote after the Civil War.
“There has never been in my lifetime, since we got rid of the poll tax and all the Jim Crow burdens on voting, the determined effort to limit the franchise that we see today,” Clinton told liberal activists in July.
Not so, says John Fund, author of “Stealing Elections: How Voter Fraud Threatens Our Democracy.” Speaking at Heritage this week, Fund said voter ID laws have won the backing of minorities, particularly in liberal Rhode Island. Fund visited our Robert H. Bruce Radio Studio to explain on our weekly podcast.

Fund, a senior editor at The American Spectator, noted that criticisms of voter ID laws have been proven untrue. In Indiana and Georgia, for instance, voter turnout has increased, contrary to fears expressed by opponents.
Six states — Georgia, Indiana, Texas, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Kansas — have recently adopted voter ID laws. But more than 10 years after Bush v. Gore and nearly a decade since the passage of the Help America Vote Act, Fund said states still have a long way to go before they fully combat vote fraud. He implored Americans to take action by becoming poll watchers and joining forces with groups like True the Vote.

5 commentsDuring the last presidential election,we saw a lot of fraud, when Mickey Mouse and /donald Duck can register, it's fraud. Only properly hired registrants should be allowed to register a voter, who, by law, must swear they are intitled to vote, and proper ID should be shown at the polls. We all get a card showing we are registered and where we are to vote, this along with a picture ID should be shown at the polls. Anyone can get a picture ID at the DMV and the cost is minimum, in VA it's $10.00.
Thank you John Fund for having the courage to recognize the elephant in the room which is race when discussing voter fraud issues. Ask yourself three question. Why would anyone disagree with providing an ID to be allowed to vote? Why is it only the Dems that object? Why is the majority of the voter fraud issues in "minority" areas? Of course the answer is simple. It's the same reasons only the Dems objected to defund ACORN.
What an American concept! ONE RULE APPLIES TO ALL! huh, go figure. It does send a mixed message though, giving the ID's for free. Isn't teaching responsibilities and expectations to them. If voting is that important to persons, then people will do what it takes or their vote is not genuine but wrongly influenced.
Democrats make it seem like an underlying FORCE to vote as democrats make exceptions and accommodations pertaining to any and all excuse of inability whether the people brought them forward or not, creating greater potential of fraud the desperate democrats way! How condescending of people!!
ONE SIMPLE RULE THAT CHALLENGES NO SIMPLE MIND! NO EXCUSES!
Mr. Fund is absolutely correct! Here in Texas, despite opposition from groups like "La Raza", the ACLU, and many liberals, we've passed a strong Voter Photo Identification law, which will help significantly to eliminate voter fraud, including voting by people who're known to be deceased. That egregious & fraudulent behavior, along with ACORN activities supporting such, was a big story in the Houston and DFW metro areas during the 2008 elections. Hopefully we'll not have any of it in the future with better identification of real voters!
We should have voter ID in every State. PA, what are you waiting for!
