As America approaches the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 this weekend, it is unreal to think that the U.S. now has the smallest Navy since 1916.

The House Armed Services Committee has a new video detailing the downsizing of the American military and many more unbelievable facts about the state it is in today. Republican Chairman Buck McKeon (CA) narrates the video, which explores the Founders’ intent to “provide for the common defense.”

It is important to honor our heroes, provide for our military, and avoid complacency in the long and necessary war. The Heritage Foundation has been keeping track of the many terrorist attacks an aggressive American offense has thwarted in the past 10 years. A recent paper documented each of them here. Heritage’s James Carafano and Jessica Zuckerman write:

Nearly 10 years after 9/11, there is little doubt that the nation is safer than it was on September 10, 2001. But the fact that the United States has thwarted at least 40 terror plots since 9/11 shows that terrorists continue to plan to harm the United States and kill Americans. Using lessons learned, better counterterrorism mechanisms, and new intelligence data are invaluable. Good leadership to keep America safe is nothing less than the American people deserve.
