Three News Reporters Join Lineup of The Daily Signal

The Daily Signal, the multimedia news organization of The Heritage Foundation, has hired two reporters and a news producer in advance of a June 3 launch.
The Daily Signal aspires to become the go-to multimedia outlet for policy news of consequence to Americans — complemented by commentary and analysis informed by the conservative perspective of Heritage’s more than 100 policy experts.
“At the Daily Signal, we are committed to news coverage that is accurate, fair, and trustworthy,” Editor-in-Chief Rob Bluey said.
Joining the new venture, Bluey announced, are:
- Kelsey Harkness, a writer and digital producer from New York City who worked as an editor and social media manager at Fox News Channel’s digital lifestyle publication, Fox News Magazine. Her first job at Fox was as a production assistant. Most recently, Harkness was a senior editor at Fashion First Media, part of New York-based Bluefin Media, producing and overseeing digital content for two fashion and lifestyle sites. She will serve as a news producer at The Daily Signal.
- Melissa Quinn, a Washington-based reporter and news producer who for the past year covered Congress, the White House, and major policy issues as an associate editor at Red Alert Politics. Quinn previously was a general assignment reporter for The Alexandria (Va.) Times, covering city and state politics, business, crime, and education in addition to breaking news. She completed editorial internships at The Daily Caller and Fox News Channel in Washington. Quinn will join The Daily Signal as a news reporter.
- Josh Siegel, a reporter, photographer, and videographer for the past year and a half as a “hyperlocal” staff writer for Observer Media Group, a multimedia company that publishes five community newspapers in Sarasota, Fla. Siegel covered business and development, politics, crime, schools, and human-interest features. He previously was a news assignment editor for Waterman Broadcasting in Fort Myers, Fla., and a freelance reporter for print and broadcast outlets. He joined The Daily Signal team Monday as a news reporter.
“The news done right will fulfill a critical educational mission for an informed and free society,” Bluey said. “We’re excited to welcome Josh, Kelsey and Melissa to help us do that at The Daily Signal — covering the policy and political debates that are of paramount importance to Americans.”
Publisher Geoffrey Lysaught underscored the basic mission.
“The Daily Signal exists to help time-constrained Americans sort out what truly is important and unravel why critical issues matter,” Lysaught said. “The reporting of Josh, Kelsey, and Melissa, among others, will reflect multiple points of view in our news content. Elsewhere, however, The Daily Signal will unapologetically point to practical, conservative policy solutions through our commentary and analysis.”
