House Cloakroom: January 14 – January 18

Analysis: The 113th Congress begins its first full week in session on Monday as the House of Representatives returns to Washington after being officially sworn in on January 3. This week, the House will take up the Hurricane Sandy disaster relief bill. There is a fair amount of spending that is, at best, tenuously related the effects of the storm, as Heritage’s Matt Mayer lays out here.  Several conservative congressmen are expected to work to offset the spending with cuts elsewhere in the budget.

Major Floor Action:

  • HR 152 – Disaster Relief Appropriations Act

The Senate is not in session this week.
